World’s largest heavy lift system gets even larger with Timberland’s help

In the early 2000’s, Timberland supplied a suite of drum winches, traction winches, and hydraulic power units to Kiewit Offshore that were integrated into the world’s largest land based heavy lift system capable of lifting over 11,300 tons. This system has continued to perform well for Kiewit since that time at their shipyard in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Late in 2020, Timberland was asked by Kiewit to assist them in upgrading the capacity of the lift system to 12,600 tons. To accommodate this, Timberland supplied four new 144-ton traction winches, four new hydraulic power units, and a kit of components to modify some of the existing equipment. The new system was eventually commissioned in 2022 with the first significant test lift of 6,000 tons taking place in mid-December, with a Timberland service technician on site to offer support. The most recent lift Kiewit performed was completed in early February 2023 and weighed in at over 12,000 tons!

Kiewit and Timberland have had a strong relationship over the last 20 years and this project is a testament to the trust Kiewit has placed in Timberland to provide safe and reliable winching solutions.
