1,290 m Mine Shaft Sinking Project “Down Under”
September, 2021
Timberland’s customer an Australian mining contractor, was selected to execute the sinking of the 4,232 ft (1290 m) deep shaft. Timberland is a proven global leader in hoisting equipment needed to sink shafts and was awarded the supply of four (4) new shaft sinking hoists by their client.
These hoists were designed based on previous shaft sinking hoists but had a unique challenge. Timberland had to design these specific hoists to a new code and regulation developed in Australia specifically for this application. The new requirements meant a change to the braking systems typically used for shaft sinking applications along with increased braking capacity.
Timberland has a very similar set of four winches nearing completion currently for another mining project in Australia for a different customer.
